SerpApi turns search-engine pages into structured data through a GET request to its search endpoint. Its Google Search API returns organic results, local results and map, knowledge graph, related questions, related searches and pagination, and the catalog extends to Google Maps, News, Images, Shopping, Scholar, Jobs, Trends and many more, plus Bing, Baidu, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, Yandex, Naver, Brave, and non-search sources such as Amazon, eBay, YouTube and Walmart.

For AI search it offers a Google AI Overview API and a Google AI Mode API (engine google_ai_mode, with a follow-up token for multi-turn requests); the AI Overview endpoint takes a page_token from a Google Search API response that expires within one minute.

Responses are JSON by default, with raw HTML or an LLM-oriented Markdown output as options. Location is set with a location parameter, plus gl, hl and google_domain, and device can be desktop, tablet or mobile. Searches run synchronously by default, or with async=true for later retrieval through the Searches Archive API.

An optional Ludicrous Speed mode runs parallel requests at twice the base plan price, and the vendor reports 2.2x faster average response times. Client libraries cover Ruby, Python, JavaScript, Go, PHP, Java, Rust, .NET, Swift and C++, there is a CLI, a hosted MCP server at mcp.serpapi.com, and a dashboard with a playground.

SerpApi fits teams that need many engines or Google verticals from one provider, SEO and AI-visibility tools that track AI Overviews or AI Mode. The trade-offs are the plan structure and cost: access is through fixed monthly search volumes rather than pay-as-you-go, the free plan is 250 searches, faster Ludicrous Speed costs double.

Inside SerpApi

Broad engine catalog

Google and its verticals plus Bing, Baidu, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, Yandex, Naver, Brave and marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay and Walmart, all via the same search endpoint.

AI Overview and AI Mode APIs

Dedicated Google AI Overview and Google AI Mode engines return AI answer content with references, and AI Mode supports multi-turn follow-ups.

Async searches

async=true submits a search and retrieves the result later through the Searches Archive API.

Location and device control

City-level location plus gl, hl and google_domain parameters, with desktop, tablet and mobile device options.

Ludicrous Speed

Optional parallel-request mode at twice the base price that the vendor reports is 2.2x faster on average and 4.2x faster at p99.

The trade-offs with SerpApi

Strengths

  • One of the largest catalogs of engines and result types, including Google AI Overview and AI Mode endpoints
  • Recurring free plan of 250 searches per month, and only successful searches are counted
  • Output as JSON, raw HTML or Markdown, with async mode and many language libraries plus an MCP server
  • Playground in the dashboard and a public status page and API metrics page
  • SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications cited by the vendor

Limitations

  • Fixed monthly search volumes with no pay-as-you-go option on the pricing page
  • Entry paid plan is $25 for 1,000 searches, and the free plan stops at 250 searches
  • AI Overview needs a two-step flow with a token that expires within one minute
  • Ludicrous Speed doubles the plan price, and async is not recommended with it
