beehiiv was built by former Morning Brew team members to solve newsletter monetization and growth. It is not a general marketing email, and that origin shows throughout the product.

A built-in ad network lets publishers run sponsorships directly through the platform. A recommendation network cross-promotes newsletters to grow subscribers, and paid subscriptions ship with a 0% platform take rate on the Scale tier and up, unusual generosity compared to competitors that take a cut of creator revenue.

Unlimited email sends and unlimited posts are included even on the free Launch plan, which is more generous than most competitors' free tiers, though subscriber count and publication limits scale by tier.

beehiiv MCP, offered in both read-only (free) and write-access (Scale+) forms, lets AI tools interact with a publication's data and content directly, another early agentic integration alongside Kit's.

What beehiiv isn't built for is ecommerce-style transactional automation (abandoned cart, purchase follow-ups) or a general marketing-suite feature set; it's purpose-built for publishers running a newsletter as a media business.
